Everything is better with friends. We need IRL interaction.

This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now and haven’t managed to say out loud.

It’s time to admit it: I’m lonely.

Having friends is central to our sense of happiness, connection, and meaning.

Community is critical to our wellbeing.

And it’s harder than ever to find your tribe these days.

At least that’s currently true for me.

My mom always told me I’d meet my “real friends” in college.

She may have just been trying to make me feel better about the fact that I was a bit of an outcast in high school. As a military brat, I’d become accustomed to losing friends every time we moved.

Legend has it that when we were leaving California (again?) I refused to even say goodbye to any of my friends.

The wise (adorable? bratty? tragic?) 4-year-old me just flopped down on the back seat of our station wagon and said,

“Let’s just go. I’m never going to see them again.”

Which turned out to be true! Not sure if this counts as a self-fulfilling prophecy but it was…
